Many companies offer training in rope rescue, some even claim to have "better systems". Our belief is that rescue systems should be based on proven principles and not "gimmicks". We will instruct from a perspective that our goal is to see critical thinking in our students. We will start with the basic skills and principles for safe rope rescue practices. With this as a solid foundation to build on, we can create an environment for the student to apply those same fundamentals to an ever growing list of environments. By taking this approach, the student can take the skills back to any work or recreational application. Angles, forces, breaking strengths, mechanical advantages, friction and the other theories at play in rescue do not choose to apply in some rescue situations and not others. Yet we constantly see practices in some rescue organizations that would show a clear misunderstanding of the forces at work.
